Disclaimer

Black Dragon is MY Viewer, i decide which feature i want to add and which to remove, i share this Viewer to show the world that user base size is not important, i do rate quality by effort, thought and love put into the project, not some rough estimated numbers. I consider feature requests only if i you can name proper valid reasons i can agree on. It is my (unpaid) time i'm putting into this project, i'm not here to cater to every Joe's desires.

Beta 2.1.0 (2471)

Clear the viewer folder! Clear your cache! Clear your settings if you're coming from pre-2.0.7!

Blub,

We have [RANDOM_NUMBER] bananas, read them below. ;P

User Interface:

I've implemented several new loadingscreen pictures for viewing pleasure =3 you can see one of them in the "Snapshots" section, they all were taken in 4000x2204 forsuperb quality...just to get downscaled to 1200x661 :P

I've taught my UI some new tricks, it's now possible to set a max width and height via XML in any floater effectively preventing rescaling beyond those values.

I've fixed the "Edit linked" checkbox which was invisible...and renamed it to "Edit linked parts"

Rendering:

I updated SSR for class 1 shader (will be disabled in future anyway, but just in case...) and reduced sun glowyness with SSR on to normal Deferred shiny levels, i also disabled the legacy shiny rendering in SSR (higher shiny = darker texture reflecting a cubemap even in closed rooms, making stuff look like shit)

Misc, regarding Firestorm-hate, my Viewer and all that...:

Donations: some people keep asking about a "Donate" button, there is none do not waste your time searching for it. I dont have one because i feel bad for taking money for something that must stay 100% at any cost. You can however "donate" me L$, given you provide me a good reason ("because its good" doesnt count), a friend also told me about a nice idea. To make my conscience halfway happy i will add anyone donating more than 500L$ to the "Special Thanks" page in Help -> About Nirans Viewer. Everyone who has already donated more than 500L$ will also be added, if you come to me and IM me (best would be with a Transaction ID from the Second Life's website (Transaction History)).

Kickstarter, Crowdfounding & co: Please no. This also isn't something you can just set up and "surprise" me with, i would have to do that on my own, which i wont. The Idea is charming but no, this is just 3 steps too far over the ledge, its nearly the same shit Kirsten did. Im not Kirsten.

Viewer ending: Calm down, i said (i've sworn) that the next "Release" will be the last one. I've never said that Beta's count towards this, i also havn't clearly said when this Release will be. My Viewer has a way too unfinished feel to just drop it as it is right now.

Firestorm-hate: So... why do i hate Firestorm? Why do i use any possible chance to shout them down in the corner they belong to? Several reasons:
???-Emerald-Phoenix-Firestorm,
Slow progression with a huge Team,
personal stuff,
them thinking really bad things about me,
my automatic hate against all un-understandable popular stuff (like Justin Bieber and Tokio Hotel as example)
their fear of their own userbase and all the bad things it causes... bad decisions which can be best described as "handholding" features (in other words the whole back/forporting of V1 shit, general support for V1 and legacy stuff...all that).

The last thing probably resembles 99% of my hate. It throws so many questions at me with lots of ???????. Why did they support V1 for so long? Why are they still "supporting" it by porting V1 shit over to V3? Why do they add so useless features for "not-so-advanced" (well lets just call them dumb, because well most Firestorm/Phoenix users ARE dumb) people to support their "lazyness" and "stupidy"? Why dont they just tell their userbase to STFU and get along with it? Why dont they stop beeing handholding, "dumb" supporting "idiots", wasting their goddamn free time to make them even more "dumb"? Do they fear their userbase? Do they fear them saying "hey why isnt shit like i want, do it nao or we will leave SL/dont use your Viewer anymore"? Why do they waste so much potential?

I mean i really i dont understand why they dont tell those idiots to shut up and get along with it, they're getting a Viewer for FREE and they still complain about it, they are wasting THEIR free time just to waste even MORE free time because such idiots complain about everything. Cant they just arrive in 2013 and drop those idiots? do they really have to play the babysitter and try to make everyone happy? is that really necessary Firestorm?! Y U DO DIS, STOP IT, YOU CRIPPLE AND SLOW DOWN EVOLUTION, YOU DELAY THE FUTURE, YOU DO ALL THIS BECAUSE OF IDIOTS WHO CAN'T GET THEIR DAMN MIND RIGHT TO ACCEPT CHANGE! FUCKING STOP IT!

Todo's:

I still have a few todo's which i will mostly focus on for next Beta, those are:

translate Clear History in Privacy
correct default values in advanced graphics
add more default values in advanced graphics
align all sliders in advanced graphics

Beta 2.0.9

As always , clean your cache , settings and viewer folder before coming up with any bug reports about Windlight presets missing and such.

From now on this will be "Beta" again because like i said , the next "Release" will be the last. Simple circumvention isnt it?

So if have been lazy and sleeping for weeks , not getting anything done until i finally kicked my fluffy butt and started working on a Sidebar tools panel which i later scraped for the good. Keep in mind that this is BETA and i dont have much time to check everything , thats exactly where YOU come in (Mission Received.) *ends transmition*

User Interface:

I´ve started to redo some things , first the Inventory panel came into my way , begging me not to do anything , but hey... if i want to change something , IT IS GOING TO CHANGE. So i put the filter down into the bottom panel , the inventory count at the top and realigned everything a bit to make it look clean. Have a look!

Then i started on the build panel which got completely destroyed and rebuild from the ground up , at the end , now that everything should be 100% functional again it looks like this.

So clean , colorfull and it offers theoretically unlimited space so its best guarded against any future updates (Materials) and i swear by god i will not let the Materials UI get past my paws , it looks HORRIBLE atm. Oh...btw its resizable. you can make it small...or big , but please dont resize its width , i have to fix that so it cannot be resized in width.

Rendering:

Slight changes here , glow has been overhauled slightly so it doesnt cause slight stripes in the sky anymore , atleast in Deferred Rendering with Tone Mapping and Default sky preset , everything else looked fine so far.

OPEN-162

For all you beeing curious , yes OPEN-162 has been implemented against everyones tip (Oz included) not to do it! However it only affects 3 bones in this version , the upper left arm was excluded because the difference on that bone would have been noticeable , everything else is and i promise you is NOT noticable , see the following pictures for a comparison on the leg as example:

the right leg has been moved up 0.1 cm (1mm) which resembles the difference between not having this patch installed and having it installed. For all those who believe that this is a fake snapshot or twice the same , look at the sky , you will notice the clouds are different on both and if you take a look at them in Full ORIGINAL size (1920x1058) you will be able to see the difference on the right (left on the picture) leg , but tell me you are able to notice this minimalistic move when an Avatar is moving , jumping and walking around and i will tell you to FUCK OFF because you CANT. Apart from that like Adeon said , at 1024m and above all attachments start to flicker 1mm and on 4096 its even 4mm!.

It will still make building symetric easier and will satisfy any perfectionistic douchebag like me when you know that stuff is really perfectly aligned now.

have fun,
Niran

You have been suspended.

Update:

So , i finally had a nice chat with Oz today about my ban and things certainly cleared up , i was told that i wasnt banned because i did something wrong , the Linden who banned me just "accidentally" banned me because he/she thought I re-opened the ticket , when they noticed that i didnt , it was already too late , apart from that he also told me that even if i had done something wrong i wouldnt have instantly been suspended , instead i should have lost my Jira Permissions temporarly. To "compensate" my accidental ban , the guy who really opened it got temporarly disabled on the Jira , i dont feel well about that because it doesnt really make me happy to know that someone else who basically supported me lost his Permissions , but anyway , just letting you know that my guess in the SLU forum was right , i was accidentally banned.

Thanks Oz for clearing that up , atlast i feel a bit better about that.

When i woke up this morning i checked my mail for something interesting and indeed i found something...
i found a Mail telling me that my Account has been temporarly suspended... ok... why?
im not 100% sure but according to my Mail
"Failure to Comply With Rules of Conduct"
ooookaaay , so i voilated 1 or more rules (again) of the Jira... mhh but it still doesnt tell me WHY? what rule exactly did i break? ok lemme compile everything i know

10 Days ago i got Mail that i voilated the PJira rules because i updated OPEN-162 in a rather fast fashion which is against the rules ...ok check

I stopped working on it and didnt update it anymore , i didnt even take a look at it for 10 Days. ok check

Someone re-opened it and commented long and broad why this Issue shouldnt be closed. ok check

5 hours later i answered , nicely , informative and in a constructive way to this re-opening. okaayy check

some time later someone else commented and i answered 3 hours (from my last comment) later to THAT comment , again nicely , i said that LL should ask the Community about this bug if they are really not OK with it. okaayyy check

Finally i see this Mail saying that my account has been suspended for 2 days >.<
You may say "hey its only 2 days" , but HEY its 2 days FOR NOTHING , is that really right? is it that how LL acts against us when we try to do something for their Second Life? Im not a fan of conspiracies but slowly i think it is a conspiracy , against me , the community , whatever... no one knows , does LL want to destroy its own Second Life? i mean , they are continuesly breaking stuff , making stuff worse for the biggest part of the community (just saying Sidebar here (not me , i really liked it)) , really , it looks like they wants to slowly cripple down Second Life until it dies but why should they do that? why dont they listen to the community? why do they break all the things? why why why? so many questions...at some point i really dont understand it anymore ...anyway... i will be off for those 2 days , doing something else , if you want to contact me please dont IM me , write in my Forum or Blog or on my Second Life Profile so i can answer as soon as i see it.

What did we learn? Never ever try to make Second Life better , do not open Jira tickets , do not vote for them , do not follow them , do not try to develop Second Life , do not help each other , dont be nice , dont discuss anything with LL , dont request a feature or a fix , do not complain about Second Life , just let Second Life as it is , B.R.O.K.E.N. Accept it , embrace the broken-ness , become ... BROKEN.

How to effectively destroy Niran.

What you need:

-Second Life
-Lots of bugs in Second Life
-Lindens
-Community
-TPV Devs
-1x Niran

Instructions:

Let your Niran find one of the above mentioned bugs that occour in Second Life , it will make him happy and we will need him as happy as possible so the predefined end is as devasting as possible. Now bring in one of your Lindens and make Niran open a Jira for the bug he found , make him create repositories , fixes and all that unnecessary stuff so he wastes as much time as possible , make sure to give him a feeling that he will get it fixed. Let him try to get as much people from the community as possible to support him to successfully fix this issue , now bring in the TPV Devs and keep them collared like animals so they know that they cant do anything against you , just let them be the collared Devs they are , they will do their job pretty well. In best case they will tell your Niran that he cant do anything about it and that they wont support him. Wait some time , let stuff be stuff and watch how your Niran will waste lots of time to prepare and do all kinds of shit to get his bug fixed as good as possible. When he´s done with preparing everything , creating documents , scripts , patches , repositories and all that stuff its the right time to beat his face with a Mace. Close his Jira , tell him that everything he did was totally pointless and you´re laughing your ass off watching him waste so much time in hope he will do something good to make Second Life a better place.

Additionally make a Snapshot of his smile as it literally turns around 180° and pops out of his face.
Profit.

Again thanks to everyone who tried helping me with
https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/OPEN-162
I think its time to bail out here and give up on everything , its all just a waste of time if Lindens and TPV Devs  just keep Second Life as broken as it is. I hope you´re happy with what you´ve done , i hope you have fun seeing me having pain in the ass like that

for my users , i will do one last release sometime soon (not sure yet) and i guess thats it then , i will just return to what i´ve done prior to creating a Viewer that doesnt try holding the users hand and wants to improve Second Life instead of keeping its broken state.

Release 2.0.8 (2432)

As always , clear cache ( , settings and viewer folder aswell if you´re coming from pre 2.0.7 versions)

User Interface:

The "Special Thanks" page in About Viewer was updated , i forgot that last time ... i updated the HTTP Textures tooltip which still said "its broken" which shouldnt be the case anymore atlast not that hard as it was before =D

The useless "Resolution Divisor" has been removed because its useless and the Fog Distance in general graphic settings have been fixed , previously they were disabled by Fog Distance (yes by itself) and controlled Vertex Shader (causing all graphics to go up n down) , apart from that i translated the cloud noise selection and added the Animation Speed menu into Advanced in which you can control ALL animations , not just your own , it will (yes it will really do) change the speed of everyone´s animations by 10% steps , you should try it :P

Windlight:

I included a new daycycle with all its presets made by Penny Patton , she said its made for the new "Layered" cloud noise image , try them out!

Mouse-Steering Mode:

I had some feedback on the Always-On-Mouse-Steering Mode and i´ve tried to implement all suggestions as far as possible , on the way i "overhauled" the whole Mode , it will not use a hacked mouselook code anymore , instead it will use the original Mouse-Steering code which is used when you left-click hold on your own avatar , that means that you will not be able to open menus with right click anymore BUT you will be able to HOLD right mouse button to make the cursor appear and interact with the UI (usefull for quick rezzing or inventory management , attaching and all that stuff). It also feels smoother and faster now and its shortcut is now bound to "V" instead of Alt + F1 , that makes it even easier to toggle in and out of Mouse-Steering Mode. There are still 2 things i couldnt get to work yet , first... crosshairs... no matter what i do , no matter how i calculate the middle of the screen.. it never shows up or if it shows up it has a few 100´s pixel offset which is just crap. Second , your camera will always "reset" whenever you move , thats kind of annoying because it will counter your Y axis making your camera "normalize" to a straight forward look as long as you move and this will make looking up/down harder when you´re moving (probably the only thing it DOESNT use of the original Mouse-Steering code). If someone finds the part of code that is doing this , please tell me.

Misc:

I cleaned up some XML files here and there , aligned them a bit for better viewing please even tho probably no one will ever see them , also removed some empty lines in code and all that other clean up stuff... you know..

Sounds that were played "locally" where flagged as User Interface sounds , that means they were unhearable if you (like me) mute the UI , which is really dumb , so i changed it back to normal sounds , local and inworld sounds will now be both muted again when you mute normal Sounds (might change that to something neutral so local sounds can be heared ALWAYS except SL is muted completely)

Snapshots:

Changelog:

Release 2.0.7

WARNING:
Clean your cache and your settings , clean your viewer folder aswell , remove EVERYTHING of this Viewer and do a clean reinstall!
Note: this will fix your windlight x is missing y problem!
Update: added always-mouse-steering mode info!

Yup after weeks of chilling , relaxing , doing nothing and ...doing nothing i finally wrap up a Release =3

Rendering:

I/you/he/she/it made alot of progress here , first of i see a future for Second Life´s graphics again =D , with materials coming soon and alot other improvements , Second Life will probably do a moderate to big jump forward especially with system requirements , this will hopefully slowly cut off the people who still think SL is an old piece of crap that is only used to chat on a mobile device , SL might have been planned as Chat at first , if at all but thats about 10+ years ago , wake up people , this is Second Life 2013 not some piece of 1998 crap you can easily emulate on your smartphone...anyway lets get to the changes...

I played a bit with my shader files and fixed that extreme overglow effect when sun is reflected on a shiny surface , it kept bugging me until i was sick of it , heres how it looked before and how it looks afterwards

at the moment i also keep track of what Tofu does in his repository , im always trying to keep up with his genius Screen Space Reflections , but thats not the only thing he does , in the past he often did some quiet changes from a little hidden place , surprising us with some great effect , in this case SSAO , last version i implemented his better SSAO again and in this version i´ve tweaked my settings to make SSAO appear suuuuper smooth and nearly zero pixely , have a look!

if you´re not sure what SSAO actually is... well heres the same snapshot with SSAO (Ambient Occlusion) off

also Tofu´s SSR now seems to reflect water a bit , which is awesome but still needs work , i guess he knows that and is working all day on it already , but take a look at what Tofu is doing anyway

looks great for now right? i bet he will get the maximum awesomeness out of it when its done.

Apart from that i´ve also tweaked my glow settings a bit and switched the DoF filtering to Anisotropic which hopefully increases the quality , as usual you will have to clean your settings to see everything new and your cache while you´re already at it.

User Interface:

I´ve done nearly nothing big here that is worth explaining much , except a fix for the login username and password entry so you wont try to login anymore whenever you tab from one field to another...

also the ability to switch cloud noise textures which has been included long ago in Kirstens Viewer has been implemented , not sure how he did , but to be honest , i really dont care because i did my own method and it needs a relog , you can set a new cloud noise image in the sky preset editor. Here are 2 examples of how your clouds can look like!

both pictures have been taken in 3940x2116 resolution and are downsized to 1920x1058 , as you can see there are no tiling issues anymore :) anyone wanting to do higher snapshots than 4000xYYYY are probably very sad because it wont work anymore , but i tell you something. If you start complaining , go. Home. They finally fixed it after so many years and you dare to complain , you should really be ashamed.

Last but not least , i gave chat , inventory , appearance and people a default position so chat will as example appear on the left bottom corner on first start , you can also use Alt + R to open the Region/Estate floater and the Machinima Sidebar will push everything aside by default now , because i think the overlaying one just feels broken as it overlaps stuff and renders it unreadable/unusable.

Beta 3.4.5

brought alot of changes , please see the changelog for most of them , but the most important i want to highlight here are (potentially) increased performance , ability to upload 60 second long animations , media volume functionality in Vista and higher aswell as alot others! be prepared to encounter tons of bugs , i´ve only tested it a few hours since merge , no promises here.

Server Side Baking:

Sorry Oz , i will not implement it , it breaks RLVa literally everywhere where it could get broken , until Kitty hasnt updated RLVa to work with Server Side Baking , im not gonna implement it. RLVa is important for me and maybe alot of other people , you should really think of incorperating it into the Official Viewer so everyone can have it , its such a nice tool that can be used for so many great things and even inworld games!... which i have been playing the last few days...

Always Mouse-Steering Mode:

Forgot about this one , sorry , thanks to Penny Patton for a reminder , this update includes an always on Mouse-Steering mode , you can enable it with Alt + F1 , it will hide the cursor and make your avatar rotate and look around like in a shooter (like if you click and hold on your own avatar)

Please be aware that this is the first implementation , its buggy and just implemented , not fixed , not finished , nothing its just in there for now , shortcut and all that stuff will change with next update , also note that after exiting this mode the cursor will remain hidden , press ESC (cancel/reset view) to make it reappear again (will also be fixed in next update)

FAQ:

Frequently Asked Questions. I will be writing a FAQ sometime soon , hopefully answering all your "noobish" and as you call them "stupid" questions , i will most likely write it as another post and make a link on the right side of my blog so you can always get there quickly.

Snapshots:

As a friendly reminder , i want to show you whats the difference between my Viewer and pretty much all Viewers out there in terms of graphics , the following 2 pictures show you how my bunker looks in a Linden Viewer (left) and in my Viewer (right) as comparison , i hope the differences are more than clear and i think even for untrained eyes , absolutely no explanations are needed here.

Release 2.0.6

NOTE: The "FUCK U FULLBRIGHT" Feature needs revisiting of that SIM you´re on (or going to 2000m and coming back down) or relog

gdjasgagdag fasjgperfmöe ... fuahgfo *enables translator*
Hai.

I hopy dopy you had a wonderfull christmas , cuz i DIDNT , i got like super duper sick , not just sick in my brain as usual , also physically sick...anyway

I planned a beta release but i made a full release out of it because it would have been counted as one anyway so here we go.

Yea uhm... Login has been fixed , menu has been removed , voice toggle added and all that stuff... you know... more important is that theres this... feature ... which allows you to disable Fullbrights... WOOOOOOW WAIT , Fullbrights? Yes you can disable them but it will need you to relog OR revisit the SIM or Place you are at (sorry for that but havnt found an effective way to do it yet)

Ever seen a fullbrightless world? no? here it is!

this is probably the best of all , you can do stuff like night and add some cool projected lights without those stupid fullbrights shining like "HEY IM HERE RUINING YOUR GODDAMN PICTURE"

Can you imagine that stuff can look good without fullbright? no? k , look at this

Oh and i forgot about that pesky bug faking motion blurrrrrrryyyyy blur... here...

go to preferences , make sure you got everything up to Deferred enabled , now enable Screen Space Reflections and keep Shadows and Ambient Occlusion DISABLED! everything else doesnt matter , motion should now start appearing a few times , just like a super simple motion blur and the lower your FPS go the easier it becomes to see it

Tofus also updated his Screen Space Reflection code and optimized SSAO aswell as DoF a bit , DoF should be ALOT faster now even with maximum resolution and SSR... well...look at it now

new Minimap FTW

please see the changelog for more information on those other changes that arnt THAT important...

Release 2.0.5 (2346)

NOTE: You have to REDO your settings to see my new SSAO , DoF , Shadow and Glow settings BUT only if you changed them which you MOST LIKELY did!

oh yesh its the time again... i mean basically its twice the time because last week i didnt do a release...
i was busy with playing Dark Souls and too lazy to release =D
anyway...

Code:

Beta and alot of lost or missed stuff has been merged/remerged , the Viewer should be pretty up to date again with CoreHTTP (Project HTTP) , Firestorms crashfix collection , and generally some other stuff that i dont remember anymore (its still alot!)

ATTENTION: German users only , please report ANY floater , panel , menu , screen etc which you found has turned to english , this is a "bug" that came from the new LL code changing something in the skinning system which seems to alter the way those translation xmls are loaded , i´ll investigate that and try to fix it!
In meantime please make a list of everything you found and tell me or give it to me via NC!

User Interface:

Not much change here , the differences are hidden in details , like an additional color picker to select the object selection rectangle color (which is by default yellow/orange/brown) and some hidden work on the Login screen which can now also login by pressing Enter key (only if you´ve selected the password entry)

Rendering:

The biggest changes have been done here =D , we all missed the super duper mega ultra better SSAO of Tofu which was so much smoother and finer and i brought it back into my Viewer! Thats not all yet , i also asked him for his SSR (Screen Space Reflections) feature which i also implemented for you to test, BUT , WORDS OF ADVISE , this feature is by FAR not done and is 5 times as ineffective as necessary (like Tofu said) so expect extreme performance drops! ... AND he also made a fix for the Atmospheric Haze not working in Deferred (it didnt for years now)

(Left is Atmospheric Haze in Deferred not working || right has working Atmospheric Haze)

Screen Space Reflectins produce a nice look , they ONLY work in Deferred!

I´ve also implemented the tiling/seams fix of Runatai for high res snapshots , but please be carefull with it , it will make you unable to make super snapshots. Your video card will render as much as it can and save it into a picture so if your video card cant handle a 6000x3306 pictures like i often did before , it will just render what it can and the rest will be black , in this case you will have to go down with the resolution until you hit one that your video card can handle , but now that you can use all graphic settings + antialiasing without having seams or tiling issues , you wont need to go up that much anymore anyway.

taken in 3840x2116

Overall i´ve redone the SSAO , Depth of Field , Glow and Shadow settings for a better default and nicer look , next time i´ll also include the new Tone Mapping defaults which will make the picture a bit more colorfull than the previous defaults did. Note to those that say "Tone Mapping looks dull" , ALL , without exception , ALL my pictures you see here are done with Tone Mapping active. Clouds as example have an extra volumetric look

Performance:

Not sure about Performance , it should have decreased a whole bunch due to better SSAO and my new Shadow settings and additional rendering due to wroking Atmospheric Haze now but as you can see Image quality has been drastically increased!
