Black Dragon is MY Viewer, i decide which feature i want to add and which to remove, i share this Viewer to show the world that user base size is not important, i do rate quality by effort, thought and love put into the project, not some rough estimated numbers. I consider feature requests only if i you can name proper valid reasons i can agree on. It is my (unpaid) time i'm putting into this project, i'm not here to cater to every Joe's desires.

Black Dragon Beta

NOTE: DO NOT, NEVER, EVER, WHATEVER YOU DO, CLOSE THE NEARBY CHAT UNTIL I MADE IT PROPERLY HANDLE IT!

phew.

A whole weekend of nonstop coding and hacking and cracking and hammering and... you know... generally tearing CHUI apart is finally ready to try out!

This beta is ONLY a preview and is ONLY meant to show what i'm doing with CHUI right now and how it will be (most likely) implemented into my new Viewer. So... feedback needed.

Old Viewer is still available via normal download link, this Viewer has a whole new Project Page therefor a whole new Download section and should prevent you from accidentally downloading this Viewer instead of the original one.

NOTE: Try out the ORIGINAL CHUI from LL first, you have to know how the original one was before you can say what is better and what isnt (obviously). You can find CHUI in LL Release or Beta Viewer. I HAVE DONE NOTHING ELSE THAN MODDING CHUI IN THIS RELEASE! DONT EXPECT A FINISHED VIEWER!!!!

I suggest you to layout CHUI like this for an ideal space usage and a pre-CHUI behavior.

  1. Honestly... it is worst than original. It seems the same of the old viewer but with the chicklets as floater instead than fixed in the corners. At least the original LL version seems a tabbed floater. this is something that is not a tabbed floater nor a separate windows.
Now i have a floater with the icons and i've to find a place on the screen for it, and the normal conversation windows too.
The LL solution for conferences was pretty good with expanding tree of conversation partecipants.
In LL version the IM was docked in a single window but they was detachable. In this version instead they are normally detached but i can't dock them...
To well see the LL CHUI resembles alot several games i played with a single tabbed communication window. I think the only really bad thing in LL CHUI is that it has not the autohide after pressing RETURN key. And that you can't keep the local chat window open while closing the main CHUI window. I think that, adding a way where I can just start typing and it automatically opens the local chat tab in the main CHUI window and after pressing RETURN it automatically will hide the whole CHUI window, will make it much better. While i have to manually click on the buddy chicklet icon to direcly open the IM tab in CHUI window.

    1. Tabbed IM will follow, my focus relies on bringing back force-seperated IM for now.

    2. Also, yes it is MEANT to be like the old Viewer, i cannot yet fix those "floating" chiclets, i have been focusing on bringing back old behavior which is the whole GOAL of this thing.

    3. I've added you an example layout for you and all those that dont know where to put stuff to not waste too much space

  2. Does it seem to load a lot faster i felt it did. And I thought the missing mesh problem was fixed but it came back. That bar on the side might be nice if it laid flat and popped up from the bottom.

    1. The problem with that right now is that LL constructed the IM tab list as Inventory list, YES it is an Inventory list! And as you might have noticed, such an Inventory list cannot be laid flat, that throws up alot of problems..but yea i will keep looking how to improve this thing.

  4. @ Tomb Raider: I hate trolling comments like yours. If you can't make constructive comments, then shut the fuck up and use the LL viewer.
@ Nirans: Unfortunately I won't have the time to test it soon, but I wanted to say that I appreciate your efforts! Great that you share your work with us for free.

    1. I agree with Estelle. If Tomb Raider want to leave SL over a beta viewer.. bye bye. Happy Birthday NiranV!! and don't work to hard today!

  6. This conversation is a perfect example of why Niran doesn't want to support users & I don't blame him ( I hope kokoro is being funny).

On a beta note - I was chatting with someone and when I clicked away to move my avi the chat box disappeared which was annoying. I guess LL is forcing us into this shit but I was fine with IM and chat just as it was :-(

Is it your birthday? Happy Birthday! Thanks for the great tool - one of my Machinima made with it was just accepted to FILE Festival in Brazil.

    1. No. All IM floaters automatically close on purpose, because thats what seperated IMs did pre-CHUI aswell, this is exactly the behavior i want back. Theres also no other way of hiding IM floaters at the moment, you can just close them but that will end the IM session.

    2. Simply amazing! Thanks sooo much

    3. I don't like the chat and IM floaters closing automatically. So it goes. If that behavior becomes the only supported way I'll run something else. Not saying you have to change it if you like it the way it is, just that you can never please everybody!

  7. Hi Niran, I wanted to point you to a bug, that an LL bug that is so old but still exists: Incorrect height information in appearance editor. https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-19767?

I was all the time of the opinion to be 1,62m (5.31 feet) because that's what the appearance editor says, but today I rezzed a prim next to me and found out that I am really 181 cm (5' 11"). Any chance of getting rid of this terrible bug in your viewers (since LL doesn't even bother).

    1. Both appearance and your prim are wrong. Theres a very very old prim flying around the marketplace somewhere which was created before this height mess appeared, it has a ruler texture which shows your height exactly and correct. You should use that one to measure your height... anyways, i see no reason to fix this either, most shapes as of today are simply "broken" in terms of way too big, even those beeing sold, there is no way that this will ever be really "fixed" for more than a few thousand people who actually care, apart from that Firestorm implemented a rough "fix" which i tried long ago aswell, it resulted in all my shapes becoming totally broken and unable to load. Just add about 13-20cm to your shown height in mind when creating shapes in future.

    2. If we can't trust prim dimensions, we might as well give up on any attempt to scale anything. I doubt that old ruler-prim is going to be any different from what you would get from prim size. (Rez cube, go into edit, stretch the top to match the AV height. (The one side only option, is that in the SL viewer?))

But I'm inclined to agree with you about how important it is. The AV proportions are dodgy anyway, things such as the arms too short. It would be nice to have a fix, but hardly worth making any effort.

    3. To be honest, LL doesnt care about really fixing the root issues, that also means we can't do either, it either gets fixed for everyone or for no one. Any Jira's, Suggestions and or Bugfix-patches about/for fixing the Avatar in itself will get declined. So did my attachment-point fix and alot others.

  8. Very awesome viewer this far, granted there are a few bugs or hiccups but that's to be expected from a beta. Love the new look and feel you are going with it. Was never a fan of the LL viewer layout and loved the V1 layout that FS offers. But using this beta has gotten me to somewhat like the layout. Viewer runs nice and smooth for me, no lag like I had with your normal viewer and FYI, for ppl who want the windlights back I was able to copy all of the windlights from the normal Nirans viewer into the beta and all work fine. Keep up the awesome work!

  10. can you make it so all the chat is in one window? its so annoying to have a different window for local & the groups.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Why would i want to change it back to its original behavior i was messing with a whole weekend to get rid of it? The whole thing is that i dont want tabbed IM/all in one Window, its one of the major reasons why i cant work with CHUI and why i hate it.

    ReplyDelete
  12. That makes no sense to have to keep switching from a window for local chat, and a window to IMs/Group chats. I have talked to a few people who find it really annoying & miss chat because they are paying attention to one window and not both. Just seems more inelegant to put everything in one place.

  13. I just wanted to thank you niran for all your hard work through the years and bringing us an incomparable viewer experience. You have truly been the tpv Viewer Dev God!it is the fastest and most stable viewer I have ever used since I found it. tho it's true I hate the direction you are going with black dragon, I don't understand why you want to move backwards. but I respect your reasoning and I will just be using 2701. I really think you should consider not going backwards with the new project but I understand this is where you feel it should go. but at the end of the day I just want to say thank you for all your hard work bringing us a superb second life experience, and I wish you the best of luck in any of your future endeavors
